collage and copper
Posted on September 16th, 2009
It has been awhile since I have been on my blog to write how this mixed media work is progressing in my studio. The simple fact is I was sick and creating anything while I am under the weather as they say is impossible. I did get into my studio this afternoon to get back to work on this painting with copper in it. I today added collage from pictures I have taken while traveling across the country to California. This painting is about a town called Copperopolis in northern California. I recently visited the town traveling on open roads with nothing but fences, ranches, and cows between the town and Stockton, Ca. where my son lives. It is a town that when you come upon it seems like a mirage that has just sprang out of the ground. I am in this work trying to show this vastness with clouds and sky meeting over the town. Copper metals combined with greens of the mountains in the distance was the first color added to this work and textures are everywhere on the ground surrounding the town. I will continue to add textures with paint and collage mainly in shades of yellows, greens and those burnt oranges that were reflected in the sky above this small town out west

Joyce,
yes, I agree that copper and green/yellow go together. I really like this one you did. If you have a chance to see some good artwork in New Mexico, Santa Fe or Albuquerque you will see how artist are incorporating pieces of copper ( some tinted) in there work.
Your colors here remind me of New Mexico.
thanks for your positive feedback. I have never been to New Mexico but want to as art I see from artists there is wonderful. Please check back to my website in a few days as I am updating it with my newest images and would love to hear your comments on these new ones.
