I have been working here on small works. It is interesting and challenging as a mixed media artist working outside your comfort zone of a studio. I will probably refine these a bit when I get home. The nude is a postcard I found at a antiques store from Venice and I added the painting and collage in the background. The other was created from images I brought from home. When I get home and have a printer I will make some of the photo images I have been taking here to some new works. Meanwhile enjoying the eighties here and sun every day sigh..... ...

find it interesting that after many years painting in watercolor, oil, and most recently acrylic that I am considered to many collectors and artists a “collage” artist. I like to consider myself a mixed media artist. Why do artists need to be included under a media title? I am in three collage exhibitions this year so far but who I am and what I do as a artist really has nothing to do with the media I work in. I am a artist! That is enough in my mind. I love to work in so many medias. Maybe we need another category for me...My dad after all was a inventor. ...

This is one of the largest collages I have attempted since my solo show and my street art installation work. I have gone back to my favorite color red with this piece 36” x 36” m/m and acrylic called “In Constant Motion”. I have been in my recent work fascinated by metal and including it within my work. The reflections, transferred photos on it and painting on it I am finding interesting. I plan to continue to use it in the series I will be working on in the coming months within the idea of people in motion and always moving through our world in constant motion. ...

So when looking through my photos I found this m/m piece which was sold a few years ago. I am going to go back to doing some works inspired by the color red! I am working on my latest one now and will post over the weekend. In our dark and no sun cloudy winter days I really need my “favorite” color! ...

Artist Challenge Day 4 .....Yesterday was a very busy day in my studio working all day on a new 36” x 36” getting me back in the painting mood after the holidays. So I am a day behind on sharing my past and present work here. I am a signature member in many local and national organizations. One in particular The National Collage Society have have been a sig member for many years and enjoy all their juried shows around the country. Every year in the spring they have a postcard show where artists are challenged to produce a postcard size art piece that has to be able to be mailed too! That can be a challenge for a artist like me that likes to add depth to a piece and not always have a flat surface. So here are three of my award winning postcards from over the years which have been in many of these shows and one included in the collection of Kent State University. Enjoy and I will put my day 5 up tomorrow as back to the studio I head ...

Art Callenge Day 3....Over the years the cities and landscapes I have visited have influenced me and changed my perception of sky, land, and sea. Many of the works that started in the traditional landscape painting have morphed once started into more of a abstraction and a different view of what I have seen and photographed. Here are some great examples of work started in one direction and taking what I would say was a “Hard Left” on my paper. I really hate nominating another artists here because I feel all artists should be putting their work on the web. But I nominate William Heard! He is a photographer who does some great photos especially of my favorite European city Venice! ...

Art Callenge Day 2.... When I start on a new series many times color becomes a dominant part of the works. In 2008 I had a affection for red and still wander back to that color as the primary motivation in my paintings. Here are three examples of works done with red just hitting you in the face! Photos within these are mine also. ...

Working on combining in my painting different metal images within a large scale painting. I am trying different approaches to a abstract conclusion ... I find it challenging to get all elements to work together... These are transfers of images I took on metal and metal plates with etched images within them... So far so good but need to take this idea to a much larger final mixed media painting! ...
