Where do my ideas for my works come from?

I was asked by a person who knows me well this question recently in a conversation.  I think the best way to describe where  I get my subject matter is from my experiences.  Yesterday I was doing my usual walk of three miles when I ran across a dead baby bird.  His wing was fanned out to display a beautiful shape.  I thought to myself as I walked away what a great shape and direction that wing had taken and it would make a great shape to include in my next work.  I am a close observer of my world and what is going on around me at all times.  A light on a building, a shape in the windshield of my car, a leaf or flower in bloom  these are all things and many more that start me on a path that can lead to new discoveries  in my world as a artist.
